Three Engraving Methods

1. Laser Engraving

Laser engraving is a process that vaporizes materials into fumes to engrave permanent, deep marks. The laser beam acts as a chisel, incising marks by removing layers from the surface of the material. The laser hits localized areas with massive levels of energy to generate the high heat required for vaporization.

In this article, you’ll find in-depth information on how laser engraving works and how to find a laser engraving machine.

But first here’s a short video that shows a fiber laser engraving process in action. In this video, you’ll see the high-quality contrasts, the marking speed, and the fumes generated during laser marking.

* Our current default engraving method is this one, which is both popular and preferred!

2. Diamond Engraving

Alpine-ST5000 Diamond Engraving is also known as “Scratch Engraving or “Diamond Drag Engraving. This is because during the engraving process a diamond graver is dragged across the surface of the engraving stock to produce the etched engraving. Unlike laser engraving material is actually removed from the stock to reveal an underlying color, or to scratch the surface leaving the engraved pattern.

3. Sublimation Engraving

While the name might make the process seem complicated and techy, it's actually quite simple to understand.

Sublimation definition: when a solid material turns into a gas without going through a liquid stage.

This means that the artwork is transferred to an object in a gas state by using a high temperature heat press during the dye sublimation printing process. It differs from traditional printing methods because it bypasses the liquid step. There are no inks drying to the printed object.

How It Works

The image is first infused onto the source printing paper, leaving little mess and making the whole process quick and easy for dye sublimation printing. Heat is then utilized to transfer the image from the sublimation paper to an object.

Businesses and home designers use this style of printing when creating graphics on our special plates, as well as signage, home decorations, company exhibits, and personal items such as special aluminium, coasters, coffee mugs, and keyrings. This is a perfect methood for printing colorfull plaques/plates(see samples below)
